Connect WhatsHappening to Claude or ChatGPT (MCP Setup)
WhatsHappening now supports MCP — which means your ChatGPT & Claude can read your voice journals, reflections, and the patterns the app has been quietly noticing about you. Ask Claude "get all my patterns and memory from my journal and write me a letter as a friend" and it will actually have your memory files in front of it before it answers.
This guide walks you through connecting WhatsHappening to Claude Desktop and ChatGPT. Both take about two minutes.
Some prompts to try once it's wired up:
"Based on my WhatsHappening journal entries, what recurring themes or habits show up in how I think about money?"
"Review my reflections from the past six weeks and point out any topics I seem hesitant to address."
"Analyze my journal transcripts from the last two months and identify the situations or ideas that spark my creativity."
"Go through my WhatsHappening memory files and summarize the key lessons my recent experiences seem to be teaching me."
"Look through my journal transcripts from the past month and help me understand what consistently gives me energy versus what leaves me drained."
Step 0 — Grab your MCP token
You'll need this once, for either app.
- Open the WhatsHappening app (iOS, Android, or web).
- Tap your Profile at the bottom of the sidebar.

- Scroll down to MCP Token and tap Copy. It's a 64-character string — keep it somewhere you can paste from in the next two minutes.

You'll also need the email you signed up with.
Connect Claude Desktop
Custom Connectors are available on Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans.
- Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Connectors.
- Click the + icon and choose Add custom connector.

- Fill in:
- Name:
WhatsHappening Journal(or any name your want to give) - URL:
https://api.whatshappening.ai/mcp
- Name:
- Click Add.

- The connector appears in the list. Click Connect.

- A browser window opens showing the WhatsHappening login screen. Enter your email and paste your MCP Token, then click Authorize.

- The window closes. Back in Claude, the new tools appear under the 🔌 icon — you should see all four:
get_islands,get_memory_and_patterns,get_raw_journal_entries, andget_reflections.

Try it: "summarise in 3 paragraphs all my raw journal entries from WhatsHappening for last 2 weeks"

Connect ChatGPT
Custom MCP connectors require a ChatGPT Go, Plus, Pro, Business, or Enterprise plan, and you need to enable Developer mode first.
Turn on Developer mode (one-time)
- Open ChatGPT (web) → Settings.
- Go to Apps → Advanced settings.
- Toggle Developer mode on. You'll see a warning about custom connectors being your responsibility — that's expected.
Add WhatsHappening
- Still in Settings → Apps, click Create App.
- Fill in:
- Name:
WhatsHappening AI Journal(Or any other name) - MCP Server URL:
https://api.whatshappening.ai/mcp - Authentication: choose OAuth (ChatGPT will auto-discover the rest).
- Name:
- Click Create. A browser tab opens.
- On the WhatsHappening login screen, enter your email and paste your MCP Token, then click Authorize.
- The tab closes and the connector shows as connected.
To use it in a chat: start a new conversation, click Tools (or the + menu), and enable WhatsHappening. Ask away.

Privacy & control
- The tools are read-only. Nothing the AI does can modify or delete your journals.
- Your MCP Token is the only credential. Do not share it with anyone. If it is leaked, email with your registered email to abhi@whatshappening.ai to revoke earlier and get a new one
- Everything passes through your WhatsHappening account. Your data is not sent to any third party other than the AI you've connected.
Troubleshooting
"We couldn't find an account with that email and MCP token" — the email must match the one on your WhatsHappening account exactly (it's case-insensitive, but typos matter). The token is the 64-character string, no spaces.
The browser window opens but immediately closes / nothing happens — this usually means the OAuth callback couldn't reach Claude or ChatGPT. Try again; if it persists, restart the app and retry.
"Session expired" on the login page — the OAuth window was idle too long. Close it and restart the connection from Claude / ChatGPT.
Tools don't show up after connecting — in Claude Desktop, toggle the connector off and back on in Settings → Connectors. In ChatGPT, make sure the connector is enabled for the current chat via the Tools menu.
